From Privilege to Promise is a Symposium designed to help all of us learn to transform our privileges and gifts into progress toward the promise of social justice. Our goal is to help create positive change in our community through learning, listening and the practice of compassion in action.
This event is offered at no cost to the public as a gift to the community by Mind & Soul (formerly the Lay Clergy Institute) and the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Longmont. Lee Mun WahLee Mun Wah is an internationally renowned Chinese American documentary filmmaker, author, poet, Asian folkteller, educator, community therapist and master diversity trainer. For more than 25 years he was a resource specialist and counselor in the San Francisco Unified School District. He later became a consultant to private schools, working with students that had severe learning and behavioral issues. Lee Mun Wah is now the Executive Director of StirFry Seminars & Consulting, a diversity training company that provides educational tools and workshops on issues pertaining to cross-cultural communication and awareness, mindful facilitation, and conflict mediation techniques. Thousands of people from government and social service agencies, corporations and educational institutions have taken Lee Mun Wah’s workshops and partnered with StirFry Seminars & Consulting on their diversity initiatives.

Red Feather Woman (Lakota/Assiniboine)Rose Red Elk is an international performing arts entertainer, known by her Native American traditional and stage name Red Feather Woman. She is an accomplished storyteller, singer, songwriter and author from the Fort Peck Reservation in Poplar, Montana, and an enrolled member of the Sioux/Assiniboine Tribes. Red Feather Woman is an award winning recording artist. Her albums are a unique blend of oral traditional spoken word weaving the oral traditions of Native American stories with themed songs.

Katie Gaddis - Sunday MessageKatie Gaddis is a Longmont native and a popular and inspiring teacher at Longmont High School. She received her BA from the University of Colorado, Boulder in an individually structured major titled, “The Tradition and Non-Tradition Women’s Leadership Roles and Principles,” and her MA from Denver University in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Urban Education and Teaching Socially and Linguistically Diverse Populations. She is currently pursuing her EdD with a focus on education and how privilege and bias affect the educational system.
